Custom web design, Drupal web development, and logo design for a nonprofit group of enthusiasts in Washington who love lighthouse history and culture.

Honoring the past

To kick off the project, we focused on creating a new logo for the society by revisiting the organization’s roots. We immersed ourselves into U.S. Lighthouse Society’s massive collection of architectural illustrations and photos to discover the organization’s legacy originated in 1789 as the United States Lighthouse Establishment.

We also took an Oregon coast lighthouse tour to visit Coquille River, Umpqua River, Yaquina Bay, Yaquina Head, and even one in Kailua, Hawaii! There were also strong ties of the organization’s past to the United States Coast Guard. Our creative strategy with the logo, colors, fonts, and visual design of the website centered around this history but with a modern twist and vibrant style.

Redesigning the website

The previous U.S. Lighthouse Society website was very cumbersome and difficult for internal staff to update. We created visual design for the home, parent, child, and extra detail pages for high impact with a broad audience. A custom Drupal 7 theme with ZURB Foundation and SASS provides a very robust system that fulfills the organization’s long-terms needs. Content is also much easier for their team to produce and now their new website is fully responsive so everyone can see the light.
